Lap Band Surgery Helps You to get in Shape in 2013

How to get in Shape in 2013
If you are obese and are tired of not being and feeling healthy, than Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery, commonly known as Lap Band Surgery, is a great option for you. It is one of the safest and most effective weight loss surgeries available. If you decide to undergo Lap Band surgery, then you’ll need to go on a Lap Band diet both before and after the surgery.
What exactly is Lap Band Surgery?
The surgery involves situating an adjustable silicone band into the body. It is inserted around the top part of the stomach. This allows it to reduce the opening to the stomach, thereby creating a smaller food pouch. This basically restricts your consumption of food and also reduces your sensation of hunger, thereby promoting long term weight loss.

Pre-Op Lap Band Diet
If you decide to undergo Lap band surgery, you will need to abide by a certain diet at least two weeks before the procedure. The diet is meant to help reduce the body fat that surrounds the stomach and liver. It is also supposed to help shrink the liver. The diet will help to improve recovery time, increase your protein intake in order to protect muscle tissue, and reduce any possible bleeding during surgery.
A pre-op diet usually restricts you from eating more than 800 to 1,200 calories a day and is low in calories, carbohydrates and fats while being high in protein. Your doctor should give you more specific instructions regarding the diet.
Post-Op Lap Band Diet
Lap Band surgery doesn’t lose weight for you. It helps to control how much you are eating, but not what you are eating. The diet that you should maintain immediately following your surgery involves four stages. The first two days after surgery, you should restrict yourself to clear fluids, consuming less than 1,000 calories each day. From day three to day 12, you should consume 500 to 1,000 calories of full liquids each day.
Men should consume 60 grams of protein or more per day, while women should consume 40 grams or more per day. From the 13th day to the end of the second month after surgery you should be eating 1,000 to 1,400 calories a day. Avoid raw vegetables and fruits as well as crunchy food. Foods should be soft or moist. By the beginning of the third month, you can switch to a regular diet of between 1,000 and 1,600 calories a day.
Lap Band surgery can only be as beneficial as you allow it to be. This means that you need to stick with the pre-op and post-op Lap Band diets in order to lose weight and properly recover from the surgery.
