Makeup  For Creating a Work ‘Look’

Every day, there is a blog post or article that tells women and others who wear cosmetics how they should look for “the office” or other workplace. And at the end of the text, readers still have the same questions in their head unanswered. Should I go with neutral or skin tones? Or is it earth tones? Maybe barefaced is best?

Some people have less than five minutes to apply makeup before they head out of the house. They do not think too much about it after that. However, if have ever seen someone apply false lashes or pencil in fresh brows on a bus or train, then you know that they have a different set of priorities and may consider themselves a makeup maven.

Now back to those colors. If you happen to wear a uniform that is green and blue, you do not necessarily have to coordinate as some shades of blue lipstick can be simply tragic. Some people find safety and convenience by combining earth tones with deep shades of green or blue for contrast. While there are some eye shadow kits that have a pre-designed template, here is a simple guide to follow.

By applying the neutral shade to the lids and following with your darker color in the corner of the eyelid, blend outward using a brush or applicator for a slight arched look. As long as the shadow is not too heavy, this should blend in the most conservative work environments. Or you can try this with plum, emerald or gray shades. If you feel the need to wake things up a bit, try applying a bronze or other metallic shade as a bridge to the neutral and the dark colors. These combos can also bring out the natural eye color.

 If you wear blush, you may want to stick with a shade that brings out the cheekbones. Save the multiple shades and contouring tricks for after hours.

The Red Lipstick Debate

One thing people debate is wearing red lips to the office. Many see red lipstick as anything from classic to sexy. Some say that bright red lips many give a wrong impression or that certain shades of red are not appropriate for the professional workplace.

Every shade looks different on every person so there is no way to pre-judge and say that what a person should not wear. The honest truth is that unless you work in the cosmetics industry, no one can hold this against you. If a superior sees promise in a person and feels that their appearance may hinder them from advancing in the company, they can offer a word of encouragement.

 Extreme eyebrows, bold or vibrant eye shadow or juicy, glossy lips cannot be held against a person professionally if it does not affect their work performance or bring trauma to others.

If you have doubts about your makeup choices, then perusing through magazines and possibly visiting the makeup counter may help you make some conservative choices that you are comfortable with. So the thing to keep in mind is that you should look your best at all times.
